The Battle Axe Open tournament returns for its third year, bigger and better than ever!

 

The day starts with a fan favourite, 1.5x Blackjack and then funnels into this prestigious IATF Major Tournament which was the first tournament in Australian history to reach a milestone capacity of 64 players! This is your chance to compete at the highest level, with the 1st place winner earning an automatic bid into the 2026 International Axe Throwing Championships (IATC).

1.5x BLACKJACK - AROUND THE WORLD COMPETITION

Kicking the second day off with a Battle Axe classic, the 1.5x Blackjack - Around the World competition. Testing your rotational ability as well as accuracy by aiming to hit that perfect 21 point Blackjack!

Competition Rules:

• Open tournament

• IATF Premier Ruleset

• 1.5x rotation hatchet throwing skill

 

Competition Format:

• Three Game Guarantee, Double Elimination

• Competitors will have a minimum of 3 matches

The ‘Three Game Guarantee’ format for a Double Elimination competition ensures every player will have a minimum of 3 matches in the event by giving each player who loses their first two consecutive matches a third match with the chance to fight their way back up through the lower bracket all the way to the Finals.

Blackjack Rules:

• 10 throws to hit as close to 21 total points as possible without going bust!

• Normal IATF scoring zones in play with the additional rules that sticking an axe outside of the target but on the board scores 0 points and an axe drop scores -4 points.

• Players must take all 10 throws.

• If you go bust, you lose.

• Closest to 21 points wins.

Tiebreakers:

• If both players are tied on final score after 10 throws, then players will go to a sudden death Clutch throw with the closest result to a Clutch winning.

Whether you're aiming for glory or looking to test your skills, the Battle Axe Open is the tournament to play against some of the top axe throwers from across the country.

 

This tournament will use the Swiss-system for match making in the initial stages guaranteeing each participant increasingly balanced match ups against opponents of the same standing, leading more and more to excitingly close matches for every player!

• IATF sanctioned MAJOR Marquee Tournament

Tournament Format:

• Swiss-System, Top 50% Single Elimination Playoff

• Competitors will have a minimum of 5 matches

The ‘Swiss-System’ progressively groups players each round with other players of the same win-loss standing, leading to increasingly balanced matchups as the tournament progresses.

 

This means as you play more games throughout the tournament you will be matched with other players of increasingly closer skill levels to yourself. A unique match making experience!

IATF MAJOR Marquee Tournament Information:

• As a sanctioned IATF MAJOR Marquee Tournament, 1st place will receive an automatic bid into the 2026 International Axe Throwing Championships (IATC).

• 2nd and 3rd place will receive automatic entry into an IATF GRAND SLAM event within the following 12 months.

• If the winner has already secured a bid into 2026 IATC or opts out of 2026 IATC participation, the prize bid will trickle down to the next highest placing player who is eligible.
