ABOUT BATTLE AXE THROWING
Built For The Sport, Built For Wollongong
Battle Axe Throwing was founded in 2021 by Chloe and Matt, opening its doors in 2022 with one goal in mind: help grow and develop the sport of axe throwing in the Illawarra and across Australia.
Located right in the heart of Wollongong CBD on Crown Street, Battle Axe Throwing was purpose-built for axe throwing from the ground up.
What started as a passion project between two people who loved axe throwing has grown into one of Australia's most recognised competitive axe throwing venues, while still staying welcoming to first-timers just looking to try something different.
Whether you're coming in for a date night, group booking, corporate event, league night, or your very first throw, our goal is always the same, to help you walk out feeling like you surprised yourself!
More Than Just An Activity
Axe throwing is competitive, social, challenging, and way more rewarding than most people expect! That's why every session at Battle Axe Throwing is fully coached with a dedicated axe coach in your lane, helping you learn proper technique, improve quickly, and get the most out of your session from the very first throw.
We believe axe throwing should feel welcoming and inclusive from the second you walk through the door.
That's why you'll see all kinds of people throwing with us:
-
people trying axe throwing for the first time
Some come in for a fun session, while others end up joining league (and even end up competing internationally!). We tailor your experience to suit you and your group.
Right In The Heart Of Wollongong CBD
Battle Axe Throwing is located on Crown Street in Wollongong CBD, making it one of the most unique things to do in Wollongong for locals, tourists, and groups looking for something different.
Being right in the middle of the city means it's easy to build a full night around your session. Grab food nearby, head out for drinks after throwing, or make a day of it while exploring the Wollongong area.

There is also nearby parking available, making it easy for groups to visit from across the region.
Helping Grow Competitive Axe Throwing In Australia
Battle Axe Throwing welcomes complete beginners every day, but competitive axe throwing is a massive part of who we are.
Battle Axe Throwing is proudly affiliated with the International Axe Throwing Federation (IATF) and has become one of the leading competitive axe throwing communities and boasts the largest competitive league base for a single venue in Australia.
Over the years, Battle Axe Throwing has:
-
hosted the Battle Axe Open, consistently one of Australia's biggest axe throwing tournament weekends
-
hosted the BAT Outta Hell Major tournament weekend
-
created the first inter-venue tournament
-
run Australia's first marathon league
-
handed out the first Champion Coin in the Asia Pacific region
-
grown from sending 1 league member to the International Axe Throwing Championship (IATC) in Toronto to sending 11 competitors in 2026
League players regularly travel from Sydney, the South Coast, and regional NSW to throw at BAT, helping build a strong and welcoming community around the sport.
Inside the venue, the league trophy wall stands as part of that history, signed by the people who helped build the community over the years.
Built Around Community
At its core, Battle Axe Throwing exists to help grow the sport while creating a place where people genuinely want to spend their time and do a fun activity.
We care about creating a great experience and building community around axe throwing in Wollongong.
Whether you're aiming for your first bullseye or training for international competition, we want every person who walks through our doors to feel supported, welcomed, and part of something bigger than just a single session.
We are always looking to forge professional relationships with local businesses and grow Wollongong and Illawarra landscape.
Because for us, axe throwing has always been about more than throwing axes, it's about the people you throw with.
