What to Wear for an Axe Throwing Session in New South Wales
Wondering what you should wear for your first axe throwing session in New South Wales?
At Battle Axe Throwing in Wollongong, closed toe shoes are mandatory, other than that just wear something you feel comfortable in and can throw in.
Whether you're heading to axe throwing for a date, birthday, bucks party, hens party, work event or just something different to do with friends, here's everything you need to know for your session!
What shoes should you wear for axe throwing?
Closed toe shoes are mandatory for axe throwing at Battle Axe Throwing.
Sneakers, trainers, work boots and other enclosed shoes are all fine as long as your toes are covered. That means no thongs, open toe sandals or other similar footwear.
We make this requirement clear when booking your session (plus a reminder in the booking confirmation) so you have plenty of time to relay it to the rest of your group so you can all plan ahead.

Forgot your enclosed shoes?
Battle Axe Throwing has gumboots available for throwers to wear during their session if they don't have suitable enclosed footwear.
Forgetting your shoes doesn't mean your session is ruined.
Maybe you're organising a bucks party or hens party and someone didn't read the group chat, or you're heading out for a surprise date and weren't expecting to throw axes.
Just let us know, and we'll hook you up with some gumboots to safely participate in the session.
What clothes should you wear axe throwing?
You don't need to wear anything specific, you just need clothing that lets you move comfortably and doesn't get in the way of your throw.
Axe throwing involves standing, moving around your lane and making repeated throwing motions. That could be jeans and a T-shirt, activewear, shorts and a top, a dress, costume or pretty much anything else you feel comfortable in. It's really up to you.
Can I wear a costume axe throwing?
Absolutely, we love it!
Bucks parties, hens parties, birthdays and themed nights are all good excuses to have a bit of fun and get dressed up.
If your group wants to turn up in matching outfits, costumes or something completely ridiculous, go for it!
If you find that a costume piece gets in the way once you start throwing, you can just take it off or adjust it. As long as you're comfortable throwing in it, you're good to go.

Can I wear jewellery while axe throwing?
Yes, there's no need to remove jewellery before your session.
If you're comfortable wearing your rings, watch, bracelet, necklace or earrings while throwing, that's fine.
However, if you notice that something is distracting you or getting in the way of your throwing, simply remove it for the session.
Do I need to tie my hair back?
If your hair is annoying you once you start throwing, tie it back. The important thing is that your hair doesn't make it difficult to throw or interfere with your vision.
What should I wear in summer?
New South Wales summers can be hot!
Battle Axe Throwing is an indoor, fully air-conditioned venue in Wollongong, so the weather outside isn't going to turn your session into a sweaty outdoor activity.
What should I wear in winter?
If you're coming in from a cold or wet day, you can dress appropriately for getting to the venue and then get comfortable once you're here. Because we're indoors, you don't need to dress for the conditions outside while you're throwing.
What should I wear for my first axe throwing session?
For a session at Battle Axe Throwing, we'd recommend:
Enclosed shoes:
Your toes need to be covered, sneakers are an easy choice
Comfortable clothes:
Wear something you can comfortably move and throw in
A costume (if you want!):
Bucks parties, hens parties, birthdays or any occassion are a great reason to dress up
That's really about it!

What happens when you arrive?
When you arrive at Battle Axe Throwing, you'll be greeted and asked to sign in.
Then your coach will take you through the session, including the safety information and how to throw.
Unlike venues where you might receive a quick demonstration and then be left to work it out yourself, our coaches stay with your group in the lane for the duration of your session.
They're there to run the session, give you feedback, help you improve your throwing, keep an eye on what's happening, and keep things fun.
